Ebola: EU coordinates immediate delivery of medical protective equipment to Guinea Format Following the resurgence of the Ebola virus in the Republic of Guinea, the Guinean government requested assistance through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. Through this Mechanism, France is sending more than 500 Ebola virus protection kits containing gowns, masks and gloves for medical staff working on the front line in the fight against the virus. The EU is coordinating the shipment of this equipment. Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, said: “The EU is determined to help the Guinean authorities contain this deadly virus and to show solidarity with the Guinean people, as it did during the 2014-2016 outbreak in the region and subsequently also in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The DRC is one of the world’s poorest countries, due in large part to conflicts that have torn the country apart for much of the last 20 years. People here have faced unimaginable hardship – including displacement, separation from loved ones, exposure to disease, and the ongoing risk of injury or death due to violence. In the province of South Kivu, people live with a deep sense of insecurity. According to a report published by UNICEF, more than 40,000 people – including 7,500 children under the age of five and more than 1,500 pregnant women – fled villages in the territories of Uvira, Fizi, and Mwenga between May and August 2020 due to the intensification of inter-ethnic conflicts. Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM): Central African Republic, Monthly factsheet #11 (01 - 30 November 2020) Format The Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) is designed to monitor humanitarian action, conduct multisector needs assessments (MSAs) and to implement several types of emergency responses, including distributions of essential non-food items (NFI) and high emergency biscuits (HEB), emergency shelter and/or water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions, as well as cash transfer programming (CTP). Currently, the RRM is made possible through the support of the European Union Civil Protection and Humaniarian Aid Office (ECHO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the British Department for International Development (DFID), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). All RRM products are available on the Humanitarian Response portal.
