Siemens, Air Liquide Join in Hydrogen Effort
Air Liquide SA, the French industrial-gas supplier, and Germany’s Siemens Energy AG announced they have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop electrolysis and hydrogen technology.
The companies on Feb. 8 said they will collaborate on industrial-scale hydrogen projects. They said the joint venture is designed to support the development and mass manufacturing of electrolyzers in Europe. An electrolyzer is a technology that uses electricity to break water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Cancarb parent company secured status in EU Green Deal research

Cancarb’s parent company Tokai Carbon has secured status under a European Union Green Deal research initiative.
Last summer the Tokyo-based industrial materials manufacturer, which produces rubber additives in Medicine Hat, acquired France-based graphite producer Carbone Savoie.
On Tuesday the company announced it will now direct research and development capacity in that country toward new battery anode technology. They will be one of 42 firms in the EU designated under specific cluster development regarding low-carbon power systems. The project area falls under an “Important project of Common European Interest” under EU policy.

Patricia Espinosa Outlines Four Keys to Success at COP26
UN Climate Change News, 3 February 2021 – In an online lecture organized by the London School of Economics, UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa today set out the four keys to success at the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow in November from the perspective of the UN.
In her lecture, she took stock of the continuing climate emergency five years on from the Paris Climate Change Agreement with some sobering facts. 2020 was among the hottest three years on record and ocean heat is at record levels, all the result of continuously rising concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
