86 percent of Romanians believe RRF can help European countries manage their recovery

According to a new survey of 15,000 Europeans across 15 countries from Vodafone’s think tank, 85% of Romanian citizens are aware of the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). 86% of the interviewed Romanian citizens think it is an effective way of helping European countries manage their recovery, the highest score among surveyed countries. The vast majority of the interviewed Romanian citizens believe the scheme should most urgently support the health sector (96%), create opportunities for small businesses (94%) and generate new jobs (95%). Three quarters think digital public services, digital skills and broadband internet access are important aspects for the recovery. Romanian citizens share this belief at a significantly greater extent.

The European Commission announced in December that as Estonia s economy is doing fairly well, the country would not receive the full €1.1 billion it was promised from the European Union s COVID-19 recovery fund. The final amount will become clear by mid-2022, but Estonia s part of the fund was decreased by €130 million for now. How the final sums of the European Union s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) will be distributed between member states will depend up to 30 percent on how the local economy compares to the EU average. Estonia is ensured to receive at least €759,700,000 from the fund, if the economy does well enough.

Next multiannual financial framework and recovery package: Council moves to finalise adoption The EU institutions are finalising the procedures for the adoption of the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027 and the recovery package. The Council today adopted a set of decisions on legislative acts forming part of the package and laying down the EU budgetary framework for the coming years. The decisions follow the European Council meeting on 10-11 December, as a result of which all member states could support the package. New own resources decision The legislative acts adopted today include the own resources decision, which defines how the EU budget is financed. The decision needs to be approved by all 27 EU member states in accordance with their constitutional requirements to enter into force. Its adoption today allows the ratification process to start.
