Five industry associations have joined forces to propose a plan for European aviation to reach net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2050.
The Destination 2050 – A Route to Net Zero European Aviation report outlines commitments that the region’s airlines, airports, aerospace manufacturers and air navigation service providers are willing to make towards that goal.
“Crucially, we now need policy-makers and regulators to align with us,” stated ACI Europe director general Olivier Jankovic during a briefing today.
The report’s proposals cover four key areas: aircraft and engine technologies; sustainable aviation fuels; economic measures; and air traffic management (ATM) and aircraft operations.
Net Zero Nature brings together global experts, business leaders, NGO’s and innovators to explore why protecting and restoring nature is fundamental to global economic prosperity, investigate the transformative changes businesses must make now to avoid extinction, and consider best practices and latest developments.

Belavia receives its first latest-generation Embraer E195-E2
MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian air carrier Belavia received an E195-E2 jet of the new generation of Embraer on 23 December, BelTA learned from Belavia s press service.
The lease agreement to supply three E195-E2 jets between Belavia and AerCap Holdings N.V. was signed in February 2020. Two more aircraft will be delivered in early 2021.
“Compared to the current generation of jets, Embraer E195-E2 offers lower operating costs. Larger wings and new engines enable to reduce fuel burn by 25.4% per seat. This jet is also the quietest and the most eco-friendly in its class: according to the CAEP/8 standard, nitrous oxide emissions are reduced by 35%, and carbon dioxide emissions by 50%. The new fully enclosed design of landing gear ensure better aerodynamics, reduces peak load during landing, and improves aircraft alignment and ground handling, which results in lower fuel consumption,” the press service noted
