ETRC calls for an end to ‘restrictive approach’ to travel The European Travel Retail Confederation ( ETRC) has called on governments to take a coordinated approach to ensuring travel is safely resumed in time for the summer. European Commission’s proposal for a Digital Green Passport. The passport would allow travellers to prove they have been vaccinated or received a negative test result, but they must be deployed quickly and in a co-ordinated manner. ETRC President Nigel Keal said: “Despite protocols in place to allow for safe travel, many European countries have taken a very restrictive approach when it comes to non-essential travel. We hope that the Digital Green Certificate will be part of a broader strategy for a coordinated restart of travel in Europe to provide much-needed certainty for our industry and our travellers ahead of the Summer period”.

Respected DF&TR lobbyist Keith Spinks has introduced a new website for his company Spinks European Affairs Consultancy (SEAC). The Barcelona-based former European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC) Secretary General first launched SEAC in 2014 as an independent public affairs, communications and strategy planning consultancy for companies operating in DF&TR. SEAC offers expertise across a number of legislative and regulatory affairs and devises strategies that address challenges to the industry. Spinks told TRBusiness that the idea for the website came earlier this year, the purpose being to establish interest among industry companies to receive more individually focused information and guidance on the challenges facing the DF&TR industry.

Conversion battle not won , says ARI s Hernan | Travel Retail Business

In a wide-ranging and candid interview, Aer Rianta International (ARI) Chief Executive Ray Hernan told TRBusiness that the conversion issue needs to be addressed moving forward. “As an industry, we have not won the battle in recent years in terms of converting passenger volumes into strong underlying sales growth,” he explained. “We probably took the eye off the ball given that the Chinese customer became so important for us all. It kind of hid the underlying weakness in terms of conversion per passenger. We need to reassess that, and it is a huge focus for us now.
