HS2 needs to be stopped: Here are all the reasons why London doesn t need another rail service

A quick look across newspapers and news channels would raise awareness about the recent protests by HS2 Rebellion against High Speed 2. HS2 Rebellion protestors clashed with the police in the early hours of the morning last week. The activists built a 100 feet long tunnel under Euston Square Gardens, in Central London, as a form of protest against HS2’s proposed, new railway line. Following the news of the tunnel, police arrested several activists, some of who were living in the tunnels, and bailiffs were called to remove some of the campaigners who were living in the trees. The activists had been living in the tree protection camps which were established in September 2020. Five arrests were made by Camden Police on 28th January 2021. The activists maintained that they were committed to non-violent action and that the protest was being carried out to defend the park and its trees against HS2.

Cate Blanchett told to protect bats in building plans at Sussex mansion

A HOLLYWOOD actress has won planning permission to build a “tranquil retreat” at her multi-million pound manor - despite the discovery of a colony of bats at the site. Cate Blanchett intends to demolish a cottage and shed on the grounds of her £4.9 million home in Crowborough and replace them with a contemporary garden office and studio, including a meditation room. But the 51-year-old two-time Oscar winner must now submit a “bat mitigation strategy” before any work is carried out, after evidence of the animals was found at the site. According to planning documents lodged with Wealden District Council, return-to-roost surveys and DNA analysis of droppings confirmed “the presence of a common pipistrelle bat summer roost and a potential occasional brown longeared bat feeding roost”.

This message came at the start of October, from pig farmer and chair of NFU Scotland’s pigs committee, Jamie Wyllie, who has criticised the powers that be for failing to prepare the country for a disease which could ‘devastate its pig population’ and threaten food security. He told The SF that other pig-producing countries were taking much more stringent measures to protect their herds from ASF, which leads to 100% pig mortality. “During a recent trip to Canada, every poster on the way down to collect my luggage warned of ASF and we had to sign declaration cards on entry with questi

Cate Blanchett reno: Rare bats halt demolition of creepy house

Cate Blanchett has been forced to halt plans to renovate her US$5 million (NZ$7.5m) English mansion as the building she hoped to demolish has been found to be a favourite roost of rare bats. The actress, 51, and her husband Andrew Upton, 54, applied to Wealden council, asking if they could knock down a cottage and shed to build an office and studio. The couple bought their mansion near Crowborough, East Sussex, in 2015, when it was in a somewhat dilapidated state. The house was once owned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and later by Dr Who actor Tom Baker. It is rumoured to be haunted because of its creepy appearance.
