Despite ongoing COVID-19-related safety concerns, Iowa Children s Museum has plans for 2021
Organizers say the programming they ve planned is only possible because of the funding they were awarded by the state last month to replace some of the losses they faced after being closed for four months last year.

The museum s annual gala, a virtual event themed Homes Sweet Home this year, is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26.
Free, in-person play and learn sessions focused on the history of Black Iowans, in honor of Black History Month and in partnership with the African American Museum of Iowa, are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17.

It could be argued the late Marvin Bell is more a part Iowa City than any other writer not only did he make Iowa City his home for more than 40 years, but his poetry can be found etched into the city s cement and, monumentally, on display in the city s pedestrian mall in its downtown core.

On Wednesday morning, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds released a proclamation recognizing Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, as Donna Reed Day. The announcement comes in tandem with what would have been the Iowa-born, Oscar-winning actress s 100th birthday.
The proclamation concludes: Now, therefore, I, Kim Reynolds, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, January 27, 2021, as Donna Reed Day in Iowa and encourage Iowans to honor Donna Reed s legacy by following their dreams with integrity, courtesy, equity, and humanity.
In honor of what would have been the actress 100th birthday on the same year the film she s best known for, It s a Wonderful Life, celebrates its 75th anniversary, the Press-Citizen spoke with Reed s family, members of the Donna Reed Foundation s board of directors, officials from her hometown of Denison, Iowa, and state officials who championed the cause of recognizing her life s work and lasting legacy.

The Englert Theatre announced Thursday that executive director Andre Perry has been named to the board of the National Independent Venue Association. NIVA was instrumental in the lobby for funding from Congress as part of the latest relief bill and worked in tandem with Americans for the Arts, National Association of (Movie) Theatre Owners and other key national organizations, a Facebook post announcing Perry s new position reads.
The organization was formed last year, early in the COVID-19 pandemic, as an advocacy group for venues like The Englert on a national level. The aim of NIVA was to push for funds for venues that rely on live attendance rendered unsafe by the pandemic.
