Friday update: Oswego County virus cases up 21 to 7,218

OSWEGO — Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Friday, April 9, that 21 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,218. There are currently 215 active positive cases. As the Oswego County Health Department continues to monitor coronavirus activity around the county, they have noticed that new positive case numbers are relatively stable when compared to recent increasing trends elsewhere in the state and nation. However, they also remain consistently higher than the pre-peak numbers reported last year. “This means that the virus is still very active in our county,” Huang said. “We ask residents to collaborate with us to protect our families and communities. Wednesday update: Oswego County virus cases up 24 to 7,166

OSWEGO — Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Wednesday, April 7, that 24 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,166. There are currently 203 active positive cases. Huang has noticed a recent increase of second-dose appointment cancellations. “Like all medicines, vaccines should follow the physician’s prescription to achieve their full effectiveness,” he said. “The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are designed, approved and prescribed to be received as a two-dose vaccine series. To fully protect yourself and your loved ones, please make sure that you receive both doses.”

Weekly COVID-19 Statistics Update: March 31 – April 6

Today: 25 new cases As of today, all New Yorkers aged 16 and over are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The Oswego County Health Department, under New York State Department of Health guidelines, is vaccinating anyone 18 years and older. Proof of age is required and must be provided at the vaccination site. Individuals that are 16 or 17 years old are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine only and must go to a clinic where Pfizer is offered. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are only approved for those 18 and older. Note – Oswego County Today now reports the COVID-19 statistics weekly on Tuesdays instead of Monday through Friday.
