Former Attorney General of the United States Eric Holder will lead an assessment of Seattle Children’s Hospital, examining the institution’s policies and practices related to race, equity, diversity and inclusion, the hospital said Friday.
Holder’s hiring comes in the wake of the high-impact resignation of Dr. Ben Danielson from his post as the medical director of Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic a subsidiary of Children’s last November. My son was 12 years old the day he was first seen as a threat. As an Indigenous mother, I had already had “the talk” with him, explaining that because of his brown skin and the ingrained racism in this country, he would be targeted for biased treatment that could hurt him, even kill him. I never expected him to first encounter this dehumanizing reality in a place built for healing.

SEATTLE - A leading doctor and prominent figure at Seattle Children s Research Institute was asked to resign last week.
On Friday, Dr. Jim Hendricks, the President of Seattle Children s Research Institute was asked to step down, Dr. Jeff Sperring, CEO at Seattle Children s confirmed in a statement to Q13 News. Yesterday, I asked for Dr. Jim Hendricks, President of Seattle Children’s Research Institute, to step down, said Sperring. I’ve listened to our workforce, families, people in the community and other stakeholders. After many conversations and thinking about what is in the best interest of the institution, I acted, Sperring said.
