The first shipment consisted of 2,100 of the 2,500 requested by the hospital. The other 400 is expected to be arrive within the next few days. The vaccine will be administered to hospital staff later in the day. “This is a very big day for Medical Center Health System and the Permian Basin,” said Christin Timmons, Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Patient Experience Officer, Medical Center Health System. “While there is still much work to be done, this vaccine offers us hope and we can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Medical Center Hospital President and CEO Russell Tippin told the Reporter-Telegram that while they were confirmed to receive a vaccine this week, a “glitch” with the state delayed that shipment. They’re now expecting to receive 2,500 doses the week of Dec. 21. “When we turned our stuff in and got our confirmation email, we figured we were done,” Tippin said. “But apparently, there was one step remaining, and so that kicked us off the list.”

The event will be at the Far West Event Center in Odessa. It is located at 5850 W University Blvd #200. The testing will be free for all Ector County residents.  Testing will officially start at 10:00 a.m. and residents can start to get in line around 8:30 a.m.  The event will last until either 1:30 p.m. or until there are no kits left for residents.

3 hospitals join forces for POWER Initiative - Odessa American: Education by The POWER Initiative has announced its partnership with all three Midland/Odessa hospitals, beginning Jan. 1, 2021. Midland Memorial Hospital will join previous partners, Medical Center Hospital and Odessa Regional Medical Center, in the reading initiative partnership. POWER is an overarching plan to try to “connect all the touchpoint and through lines from birth to kindergarten or prek,” said Adrian Vega, executive director of the Education Partnership of the Permian Basin. The POWER Initiative falls under the Education Partnership of the Permian Basin. Vega said it gives “structure and focus to how we’re aligning all our resources. The whole goal is to improve kindergarten readiness. We’re literally starting at birth.
