The Rs 100 crore tea packaging unit of Tata Consumer Products Ltd in Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha will commence commercial production soon, the company said on Friday. The unit located at the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone is constructed over an area of 16 acres, with an annual production capacity of 60 million kgs. Trial production has already commenced at the unit, the company said in a statement.

Rejecting terror threats, leading tea company Amalgamated Plantations said on Saturday it was committed to the state of Assam.
In a statement, the company said that majority of its employees are from Assam and it continues to maintain the main operating office in Guwahati, besides having 21 tea estates and units across the state while employing almost 50,000 people.
The company has invested substantially in two tea processing units at Hattigor and Lattakoojan tea estates and in a spice processing centre near Misa, it said.
GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) has asked Amalgamated Plantations Pvt. Ltd the enterprise carved out of the erstwhile Tata Tea Ltd to immediately relocate all its administrative offices to Assam and recruit only “indigenous people of Assam” from now on, failing which it has threatened to close down its gardens in the state.
The Amalgamated Plantations has multiple stakeholders, including IFC, a part of the World Bank Group, and the Tata Group has its head office at 1 Bishop Lefroy Road, Kolkata, and a corporate office in Guwahati.
The outfit in a statement said, “You have heavy responsibilities to the land and her people where you operate your business at, and in respect of this, it is Western East South Asia region, especially Assam.”
