Several Grand Rapids area unions took part in a rally Saturday, May 1 to celebrate International Workers Day

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Touting the need for strong unions to protect American workers, supporters of several Grand Rapids-area labor groups rallied Saturday to celebrate International Workers Day.
The rally happened next to the Spirit of Solidarity monument at Pearl Street NW and Front Avenue, near the Gerald R. Ford Museum.
The monument is a tribute to the “The Great Furniture Strike of 1911″ in Grand Rapids, which generally led to better wages and shift hours for workers.

Authorities have not identified a suspect and are asking the public to call an anonymous tip line at 408-808-4431 with any information about the attack.

KTVU, this is not the first time a transit worker was attacked in the area. In 2019, a female bus driver was shot in the head with a pellet gun. She has since returned to work. We face all types of assaults. Verbally our operators hear just about everything. So this certainly puts this in the narrative of some of the things that we ve heard, that this could possibly be a hate crime,

ATLANTA Frontline MARTA employees will be getting a one-time $3,500 pandemic bonus payment, the transit agency announced on Friday.
The bonus will be given to roughly three-quarters of MARTA s workforce. The total expenditure will be about $13 million, the agency said, coming out MARTA s budget surplus. Employees who will receive the payment include bus and rail operators, mechanics, and supervisors and members of the MARTA Police Department with the rank of major and below, a release said.
The payment is still pending approval by MARTA s board of directors, which will next meet in May. MARTA Board Chair Rita Scott said she was confident the board would approve the bonuses.
