TriMet officials learned Thursday that the transit agency will receive 1,000 COVID-19 vaccines next week that will allow it to begin vaccinating bus operators, mechanics and other frontline workers against the coronavirus.
The tri-county rail and bus operator expects to start mobile vaccine clinics at its bus yards next week and said it expects to receive additional shipments to vaccinate more of its employees in coming weeks.

Photos of a packed early morning bus prompted Toronto’s transit authorities on Thursday to promise more vehicles in service but the union said it has been sounding the overcrowding alarm for a year.
In a statement, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) said the system has been using a demand-based service model during the COVID-19 pandemic and has increased bus service in recent months.

Mayor Brian Bowman tweeted a series of messages Tuesday renewing calls for a refreshed rollout amid the spread of more infectious variants of concern. “It’s really trying to advocate what we’re seeing in other jurisdictions, which is increased emphasis on exposure to risk rather than just an age demographic,” Bowman said in an interview. “A 49-year-old who can stay at home and work in their basement is going to be different than a first responder who’s going to be out there in the community putting themselves at risk.”
