The government granted additional borrowing permission of Rs 2,508 crore to Telangana for completing the urban local body (ULB) reforms, a finance ministry statement said on Thursday. This makes Telangana the third state after Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to achieve the ULB reforms, taking the total additional borrowing granted to them to Rs 7,406 crore.

Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, Jan 7 : Telangana has become the third state in the country to successfully undertake Urban Local Bodies (ULB) reforms stipulated by the Union Finance Ministry, making the state eligible to mobilise additional financial resources of Rs 2,508 crore through Open Market Borrowings. With this, Telangana has now joined the two other states - Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh - who have completed these reforms. On completion of urban local bodies reforms, these three states have been granted additional borrowing permission of Rs 7,406 crore.

On completion of urban local bodies reform, these three states have been granted additional borrowing permission of Rs 7,406 crore. Reforms in urban local bodies (ULBs) and urban utility reforms are aimed at the financial strenghtening of ULBs in the state and to enable them to provide better public health and sanitation services.

The state is now eligible to mobilise additional financial resources of Rs 1,429 crores through Open Market Borrowings, according to a Finance Ministry statement on Wednesday (December 30). 

FinMin allows Rajasthan to borrow Rs 2,731 cr more post ease of doing biz reform

Rajasthan has now joined the five other states namely, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, which have completed the reform facilitating ease of doing business to be eligible for additional borrowing. These six states have been granted additional borrowing permission of Rs 19,459 crore.
