This photo was taken before COVID-19.December begins a yearlong commemoration marking the 25th anniversary of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. Since its creation in 1995, the office has dedicated itself to increasing cancer education and awareness in medically underserved populations and addressing health disparities throughout Alabama and beyond.
A series of public virtual activities is planned throughout 2021 to mark the office’s landmark year and showcase the history of the office and how it has evolved to positively impact communities in the future. UAB needs women for breast cancer screening study

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Studies show one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Researchers at UAB are hoping to lower that figure by recruiting women for a study to understand the breast screening process better.
The OâNeal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB is recruiting women to join their WISDOM study, short for Women Informed to Screen Depending On Measures of risk. Organizers say itâs a national research study designed to test a personalized approach to breast cancer screening and prevention.

The UAB Advancement team has accomplished great things over the years, including raising more than $1 billion in The Campaign for UAB, a 10-year fundraising effort that wrapped up in 2018.
When UAB Vice President for Advancement Tom Brannan received the William S. Roth Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award for his role in the campaign, he was quick to recognize teamwork that went into making it a success.
Brannan received the award on National Philanthropy Day, which was hosted virtually on Nov. 13 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Alabama Chapter.
