It had bipartisan support in the state legislature but lots of pushback from teachers unions in the state, including United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). Los Angeles teachers union rejects return to classroom until demands are met KABC Share: LOS ANGELES (KABC) Members of the Los Angeles teachers union voted overwhelmingly Friday to reject what it calls an unsafe return to the classroom unless certain demands are met. The vote comes on the heels of Gov. Gavin Newsom signing a $6.6-billion bill offering school districts a major financial incentive to get students back into classrooms. For LAUSD in-person teaching to resume, United Teachers Los Angeles is demanding L.A. County move out of the state s purple tier, returning staff must be vaccinated or have access to vaccines and coronavirus safety measures must be in place on campus.
