Russia’s UEC Demos Pulse Detonation Engine Our Bureau 1695 Pulse detonation engine Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC) has completed the first stage of testing a a pulse detonation engine, which in the future can be used in advanced rocket and space systems, hypersonic aircraft and orbital space-planes. In some operating modes, the power plant demonstrated up to 50% increase in specific thrust when compared to conventional engines. Pulse detonation engine is a new type of aviation power plant. It has a more efficient thermodynamic cycle than currently operated gas turbine engines. The A. Lyulki Design Bureau (branch of PJSC UEC-UMPO ) has formed a separate development project for power plants of this type.
