Since the start of the year, workers throughout the United States have been engaged in a series of significant class struggles that reflect the growth of anger and opposition throughout the country. Workers are fighting back against the ferocious austerity measures of the ruling elite that have followed the massive handout to the corporate and financial elite in the midst of the pandemic.
Sections of nurses, autoworkers, steelworkers, teachers, coal miners and others have been engaged in class battles spanning weeks and months, in which they confront not only the employers and the government, but the treachery of the unions.

Sixteen months after COVID-19 was first detected, what is the state of the global pandemic? There’s no end in sight. Worldwide, more than 12,000 people die from COVID-19 every day, with more than 500 deaths each day in the US. New studies estimate that upwards of 10 million people have lost their lives to the virus so far. More Americans have now died from COVID-19 than in all wars of the 20th century combined.
As the pandemic goes on and on, new and ever more contagious variants continue to evolve, appearing first in one part of the globe and quickly spreading to others. The latest is B.1.617.2, the Indian variant, which is now ripping through the United Kingdom, 4,000 miles from where it was first detected.

Shell to sell interest in Deer Park refinery to partner PemexShell Oil Company, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc, has reached an agreement for the sale of its interest in Deer Park Refining Limited Partnership, a 50-50 joint venture between Shell Oil Company and P.M.I. Norteamerica, S.A. De C.V. (a subsidiary of Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex). The transaction will transfer Shells interest in the partnership, and therefore full ownership of the refinery, to Pemex, subject to regulatory approvals.
