Two months ago, the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub with Dufuna as the implementing partner launched the Design School programme- a virtual programme for 30 aspiring product designers aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to kick-start a career in tech.
With over 1500 applications received, successful candidates were onboarded for the virtual programme were amongst others, they learnt how to identify, and design solutions for customers. By employing a problem-based learning method, participants of the programme were able to apply the theories and principles they learnt by competing to win the bid for the design of an online restaurant reservation and food ordering system for a fictitious client.

Diageo Innovates Sustainable Glass Scotch Whisky Bottles
Spirits giant Diageo recently collaborated with glass manufacturer Encirc in a pilot project to create what’s said to be the lowest carbon footprint glass bottles ever produced for a Scotch whisky brand. Diageo and Encirc worked alongside industry research and technology body Glass Futures to create waste-based biofuel-powered furnaces to reduce the carbon footprint of the bottle-making process by 90%.
Diageo used its Black & White Scotch whisky brand to test out the innovative technology. It produced 173,000 Black & White bottles using 100% recycled glass, making it the most environmentally friendly batch of Scotch whiskey ever made, according to the company.

Baebies, a growth-stage company developing innovative products to enable early disease detection and comprehensive diagnosis, announced today that CARB-X has awarded the company up to $11.6 million in non-dilutive funding. This funding will support the development of a near-patient and rapid diagnostic platform for sepsis - specially focused on addressing the unique needs of neonatal and pediatric populations.
The CARB-X award consists of $3.9 million in initial funding with up to $7.7 million of milestone-based funding. CARB-X, a global non-profit partnership, provides funding and support for projects that target drug-resistant bacteria deemed Serious or Urgent on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Antibiotic Resistant Threats list or Critical or High on the World Health Organization s Priority Bacterial Pathogens list.
