In news that bodes well for the UK Government s Events Research Programme, organisers have found there was “no sign” of increased Covid-19 infections following a pilot test event with 5,000 fans at a Love of Lesbian show at Barcelona’s Saint Jordi Arena (cap. 17,000), during which there was no requirement for social distancing.
The event, which was organised by Festivals per la Cultura Segura, saw all attendees provided with and required to wear an FFP2 face mask. Other Covid mitigation measures included enhanced ventilation in the venue, and the crowd being split into three areas but able to move without restrictions.

Earlier this month, the 2021 Carabao Cup Final between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur was confirmed as part the UK Government’s Events Research Programme, a series of scientific pilot events that will help gather insight and evidence to help get big crowds back this summer.
With 8,000 people permitted to attend Wembley Stadium on Sunday 25 April (4.30pm), the Carabao Cup Final will be the first football fixture to have club supporters back this year, marking a welcome return for the English professional game. The EFL is pleased to participate in the Events Research Programme as we seek a full return of fans to stadia for the start of next season.
