This week the UK announced its formal process to join the trade alliance, with some commentators claiming it may well be a ploy to tempt Mr Biden into a trade deal. However, one US commentator has shot down Mr Johnson’s ploy, claiming the new President will be a “hostile ally” towards London. Speaking to Express.co.uk, US commentator Jadan Horyn claimed the alliance would be a great opportunity to expand trade worldwide.
Stormont’s Economy Minister has called for urgent action from the UK Government on parcel deliveries to Northern Ireland.
It followed the end of the Brexit transition period and the establishment of the Northern Ireland Protocol which affects trade to Northern Ireland from Great Britain.
Diane Dodds attested to “significant confusion” in the e-commerce market from businesses and consumers.
Mrs Dodds said: “This can be detrimental for consumers and mean that they may be more vulnerable to scams or have less choice in price and range of goods.
“To date, my officials and The Consumer Council have been responding to queries on this.”

Economy Minister Diane Dodds has called for urgent action from the UK Government on parcel deliveries to Northern Ireland.
The Minister said: “We are seeing significant confusion in the e-commerce market, both from businesses and consumers. This can be detrimental for consumers and mean that they may be more vulnerable to scams or have less choice in price and range of goods.
“To date, my officials and The Consumer Council have been responding to queries on this. The Consumer Council has also published helpful frequently asked questions for consumers.

The low down
Covid-19 and Brexit have pushed the UK’s devolved governments further into the spotlight. That has created new tensions between Cardiff and London, while familiarising millions in England with the name of Wales’ first minister. Many in Wales hope the crisis will act as a spur to further divergence and decentralisation – with the next parliamentary term in Wales seen as a pivotal period for the devolution project. This is notably true in the spheres of justice and policing. The radical report of the Commission on Justice in Wales in 2019 was a landmark development, but there are ‘many, many barriers’ still to overcome if its 78 recommendations are to be realised.
