The Royal Navy has warned of a “potential hijack” off the coast of the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf of Oman – days after an attack on a tanker left a Briton and a Romanian dead.

FUJAIRAH, United Arab Emirates The British navy says the hijackers who boarded a vessel off the coast of the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf of Oman have left the targeted ship, without elaborating.
The notice on Wednesday came after the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations warned of a “potential hijack” under unclear circumstances underway the night before. The group reported that the “incident [is] complete.” It did not provide further details.

DUBAI, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Oman on Wednesday identified the Panama-flagged Asphalt Princess as the tanker involved in a hijacking which Britain s maritime trade agency earlier said was over.
The statement by Oman s Maritime Security Centre was the first official confirmation of Tuesday s incident in the Arabian Sea which maritime security sources had told Reuters involved suspected Iranian-backed forces. Iran denied any involvement. read more
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a warning notice based on a third-party source on Wednesday that people who had boarded a tanker involved in a potential hijack had since left and that the vessel, which it did not identify, was safe.

LONDON, August 4. /TASS/. Individuals who seized the Panama-flagged Asphalt Princess tanker in the Gulf of Oman earlier on Tuesday ordered the crew to steer the ship to the territorial waters of Iran, BBC reported citing Lloyd’s List, a company that tracks maritime traffic worldwide.
According to the report, the tanker is now headed toward the Strait of Hormuz, connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
