Health leaders and experts are meeting a year after the murder of George Floyd to discuss challenges over racial inequality and to celebrate the individuals making a difference.
To mark the anniversary, the NHS Race and Health Observatory is hosting a debate on the health recommendations put forward in the recently published Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities report.
“Today is an opportunity for leaders to reflect on progress made since the heinous killing of George Floyd”
Joan Saddler
The speakers will explore the impact of race on health inequalities, both from a UK and international perspective, as well as looking at questions of identity and mental health.

LONDON (AP) â An activist who has played a leading role in antiracism demonstrations in Britain is in critical condition after being shot in London, her political party says.
The Taking the Initiative Party says Sasha Johnson was shot in the head on Sunday. It said Johnson, who played a leading role in Black Lives Matter protests last year, had received ânumerous death threats.â
The recently founded Taking the Initiative Party said Johnson, a member of its executive leadership committee, was âa strong, powerful voice for our people and our community.â
The Metropolitan Police force said a 27-year-old woman was in a hospital in critical condition after being shot in southeast London early Sunday. It did not identify her, but said âthere is nothing to suggest it was a targeted attack or that the woman had received any credible threats against her before this incident.â
