UK immigration rule infuriates hauliers

The industry has warned that the new fine, which will apply regardless of whether drivers comply with security measures and schemes, will make the driver shortage crisis even worse. The draft of the New Plan for UK Immigration is said to contain the new penalty as a way of ‘providing enough incentive to comply with the requirements of the schemes’.

UN fires warning over UK immigration plans

The United Nations (UN) has warned that Priti Patel’s ‘New Plan for UK Immigration’, formally announced as part of the Queen’s Speech on 11 May, will ‘damage lives’ and ‘undermine international’ co-operation in the latest criticism of the Home Secretary’s proposals. The UN’s refugee agency said it has “deep concerns” about a two-tier approach to asylum, describing it as “discriminatory”. The Home Office has been urged by the UN’s refugee agency to rethink the proposals, which were unveiled by Patel in March. The consultation period for the New Plan for UK immigration ended recently and was also criticised, with immigrant advocacy and human rights’ groups calling the consultation period a sham.

New Plan for UK Immigration consultation closes today

The consultation period for Priti Patel’s much maligned ‘New Plan for UK Immigration’ closes today. The Home Secretary has faced heavy criticism over the plans, while the consultation process has been branded ‘a sham’. Patel claims that the main objective of the plans is to deter illegal entry into the UK and people trafficking, while making it easier to remove people from Britain who have no right to be in the country.
