NOAA’s Atlantic hurricane outlook calls for sixth straight above-average season Matthew Cappucci Hurricane Delta as viewed from the International Space Station prior to landfall in southeast Louisiana on October 28. (NASA) Just months after the conclusion of the busiest Atlantic hurricane season on record, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has released its 2021 outlook, calling for another active season. The agency is the latest of several forecasting groups watching the upcoming hurricane season’s potential to overperform for the sixth year in a row. It comes following the devastating 2020 season, which featured 30 named storms, tied the record set in 2005 with seven major hurricanes, and featured back-to-back Category 4 monsters in Nicaragua that lashed the same communities just two weeks apart. A record 11 tropical storms and hurricanes made landfall in the United States. The record-shattering 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is over,
In an ever-warming climate, ripple effects or chain reactions could lead to altered weather patterns across the globe thanks to a melting Antarctic ice sheet, a new study says.
The study, published in the journal Nature Geoscience, found that as Earth continues to heat up, the land underneath the Antarctic ice sheet will become more exposed.
As a result of that process, wind patterns will shift, and rainfall will increase over Antarctica, which could trigger processes that speed up ice loss.

UNSPECIFIED, ANTARCTICA - OCTOBER 31: The western edge of the famed iceberg A-68 (TOP R), calved from the Larsen C ice shelf, is seen from NASA s Operation IceBridge research aircraft, near the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula region, on October 31, 2017, above Antarctica. The massive iceberg was measured at approximately the size of Delaware when it first calved in July. NASA s Operation IceBridge has been studying how polar ice has evolved over the past nine years and is currently flying a set of nine-hour research flights over West Antarctica to monitor ice loss aboard a retrofitted 1966 Lockheed P-3 aircraft. According to NASA, the current mission targets sea ice in the Bellingshausen and Weddell seas and glaciers in the Antarctic Peninsula and along the English and Bryan Coasts.
