The Status Yellow warning will come into effect from 6pm tomorrow and will last until midday on Sunday. It follows an earlier warning, which currently applies to Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo. Met Éireann is warning of falls of hail, sleet and snow with icy and hazardous conditions. The warning for the seven northeastern counties expires at midday tomorrow, but will be followed by the warning for the entire country at 6pm.

Icy weekend ahead as Met Éireann issues warnings

  Met Éireann has issued a series of snow and ice warnings ahead of what is set to be a cold weekend. The first warning comes into place at 12pm on Friday for the north and northwest. Counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo have been told to expect falls of hail, sleet and snow. The UK Met Office has also issued a similar warning for Northern Ireland, which comes into effect from 4pm on Friday. It has warned that snow and ice may cause travel disruption on Friday night and into Saturday morning. Countrywide Met Éireann’s status yellow snow and ice warning will be extended to the entire country from 6pm on Saturday.
