Anne-Marie Trevelyan has been named as construction minister – just a month after the appointment of Kwasi Kwarteng to the post.
Kwarteng became construction minister in early December after predecessor Nadhim Zahawi was given responsibility for overseeing England’s vaccine roll-out. On Friday it was announced that Kwarteng has already been promoted to business secretary. Alok Sharma has moved from that job after being handed full-time responsibility for the UN COP26 climate conference, the largest summit ever held in the UK, which takes place in Glasgow in November.
At just one month, Kwarteng’s stint in the role is the shortest in history, beating fellow Conservative Lord Henley who held it from October 2017 to January 2018.
