Schools closed until March 8 – but Boris Johnson promises roadmap out of lockdown
Prime Minister dashes hopes of return to classrooms after February half-term in statement to Commons

Schools in England will not reopen before March 8, Boris Johnson announced as he shelved hopes of reinstating in-person lessons after the February half-term.
The Prime Minister sought to offset his downbeat statement on classrooms remaining closed to most pupils for another five weeks with the promise that next month he will publish a roadmap out of Covid restrictions for the nation.
His statement to the Commons on Wednesday afternoon followed growing clamour from Tory backbenchers and Labour for clarity over the timetable for pupils to return to face-to-face lessons.
