UK Charity Commission consults on SRI guidance

By Gail Moss2021-05-05T08:00:00+01:00 The UK’s Charity Commission has launched a public consultation on revised guidance covering socially responsible investing (SRI) by charities. The revisions are based on a listening exercise which the Commission carried out last year to help it understand the barriers deterring trustees from making responsible investments. Some respondents to that exercise had identified the Commission’s investment guidance as one of those barriers. Trustees generally have a legal duty to seek the best financial returns from investments within the level of risk considered acceptable, but they can also make financial investments in ways that align with their charity’s purpose and values.

How to Raise Funds from European Foundations

Learn how to raise funds from European Foundations worldwide! European Foundations give a lot of money to project every year – the 147.000 foundations from 24 countries gave an estimated 71 billion US$ in 2017 alone. Nevertheless, many fundraisers are not familiar with European Foundations and don´t take advantage of the opportunities presenting themselves here. Different names, languages, and the lack of centralized information and public reporting requirements can make it very difficult to gather enough information about European foundations. There are many European foundations that support projects in their own countries and abroad, but the challenge is to find the needle in the haystack and to make a perfect match.

Muslim groups boycott review of UK counter-extremism strategy

LONDON: A group of over 450 Islamic organizations in the UK will boycott a review of the government’s anti-radicalization Prevent program over the appointment of its chairman. William Shawcross, who led the UK Charity Commission from 2012 to 2018, has been accused of having a track record of hostility toward Islam and Muslims. Prevent facilitates schools, medical trusts, prisons and local authorities reporting individuals they believe may be at risk of turning to extremist ideologies.  Critics have long said it facilitates discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities in the UK, particularly members of the Muslim community. Many have called for an independent review of its methods, but the impartiality of that review is being called into question.
