Tritax Symmetry has submitted a dual application for the development of the next phase of its 53-acre Symmetry Park Bicester scheme.
The application could see the development of either a single 268,765 ft2 warehouse on the 14.59 acre Plot C or the development of two new distribution units comprising 90,298 ft2 and 172,180 ft2.
The news follows the practical completion of DPD’s new 60,000 ft2 parcel distribution hub on the scheme. The project represents the developer’s first ‘net zero carbon in construction’ building, as regulated by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), to be delivered within the Tritax portfolio.
DPD signed a 25-year pre-let in May last year and joins: Ocado Retail, which agreed a 20-year lease on Unit B (164,000 ft2) at the end of last year for a new customer fulfilment centre; Bentley Designs (88,000 ft2) and Medline Services (110,000 ft2).
Legal and General has appointed a UK Green Building Council director as its new head of sustainability.
John Alker will take the role at L&G Capital in August and will act as the firm’s strategic sustainability lead, proposing sustainability targets and measuring and communicating the firm’s social impact.
John Alker starts at L&G in August
It follows LGC’s pledge last year to make all of its new housing stock operationally net zero enabled by 2030 – across all homes invested in or built by the group.
Alker, who has also served as a board director for the World Green Building Council, joined the UKGBC in 2007 in the year it was formed as director of policy and places. He also held the role of interim chief executive for four months in 2015.

The government has set out its ambitions to revamp building safety and planning laws, but some trade bodies say these reforms must not undermine aims to decarbonise homes
Plans to modernise UK planning laws in a bid to speed up home construction must not undermine the country s main environmental ambitions, the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) argues.
The government’s legislative priorities for the current year were detailed in the Queen’s Speech that was delivered to Parliament today (11 May). The speech pledged to streamline the planning process and fully establish a new building safety regulator in law.
