Taylor Wimpey(LSE: TW), fell so hard in the 2020 stock market crash. Sure, lockdowns made it a lot harder for people to move house, and that was certain to have an adverse effect on profits. But did the Taylor Wimpey share price really deserve to lose more than 50% in the early months of Covid-19?
I can think of plenty of companies whose longer-term futures could have been seriously threatened by the pandemic. But I see housebuilding as one of those real essentials, providing the things that humans just can’t manage without… food, energy, clothing, housing, all that stuff. What’s more, in the UK we’ve been in the grip of a housing shortage for decades.
Canadian chip developer Alphawave IP is set to float in London after setting a benchmark valuation of $4.5bn from cornerstone investors backing the initial public offering.
The company, founded only four years ago, develops chip technology that pushes data through data centres and phone networks. It intends to raise more than $500m via a listing in London and set up a research centre in Cambridge, the heart of Britainâs semiconductor industry known as âSilicon Fenâ, as part of its expansion.
The company will move its headquarters to the UK as part of the float, providing a significant boost to the government’s ambitions to attract more technology businesses to Britain.
Should I buy Anglo American shares?

I’ve been busy this week. I have already dealt with
Open Orphan, one of my portfolio holdings, and its plans for a demerger. Today I am dealing with another.
Anglo American(LSE:AAL) wants shareholder approval to spin-off its thermal coal operations in South Africa into a new holding company, Thungela Resources. If shareholders, like me, back the move, they will get one Thungela share for every 10 Anglo shares they own. At least 75% of shareholders need to approve the demerger at the annual general meeting on 5 May 2021.
I suspect the motion will be passed. The 3% rise in the Anglo American share price after the announcement suggests investors in Anglo approve of the move.

FTSE 100 banks have recovered faster than others.
Barclays (LSE: BARC) is one of the better recoverers. The Barclays share price is well past the pre-market crash levels, and is now at levels last seen in 2019.
