LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2021) The design phase for the construction of a new University of Kentucky College of Medicine building was approved Tuesday by the UK Board of Trustees.
As part of the college’s planned growth strategy, a new building will establish a world-class education facility that will become the hub of medical education in Kentucky and beyond, said UK College of Medicine Dean Robert DiPaola.
The project is planned to include approximately 380,000 square feet for classrooms, simulation suites, conference rooms as well as office and support space for the College of Medicine and other health care colleges.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2021) Henry Vickers spent the majority of his life as a public servant working in civil engineering, and now, his memory will live on in the engineers of the future.
Accepted by the UK Board of Trustees, Vickers’ recent gift totaling more than $1 million will support the existing Henry C. Vickers Endowed Scholarship Fund in the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky.
“We in the UK College of Engineering believe engineers play a crucial role in creating a world that works,” Dean Rudy Buchheit said. “I am gratified that Mr. Vickers not only felt the same way about the engineering profession, but also generously provided the college with an endowment that will enable more of our students to concentrate their effort on becoming excellent engineers.”
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2021) At the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees meeting on May 4, University Research Professorship Awards to 14 faculty members were announced. These awards recognize excellence in research and creative work that addresses scientific, social, cultural, economic and health challenges in our region and around the world.
The University Research Professorships were established by the UK Board of Trustees in 1976 to recognize outstanding research achievements. The professorships program recognizes excellence across the full spectrum of research, scholarship and creative endeavors within each college at UK. College leadership developed criteria for excellence within their area of expertise, and then nominated faculty who excelled at these criteria. Each University Research Professor receives a one-year award of $10,000 to be used to further their research, scholarship and creative endeavors.

One of the most important considerations for new and current students (as well as their families) is the cost of an education – something we have made tremendous strides to address in recent years as part of our mission to place students first in everything that we do.
We’ve worked to significantly hold down annual tuition increases, while investing more and more in scholarships and grants that don’t have to be repaid and that are particularly targeted to students with the most need.
We plan to strengthen that commitment to students even more in the coming year. During the June meeting of the UK Board of Trustees, I will propose for the 2021-2022 academic year an increase in tuition and mandatory fees of only 1 percent.
