UK places £1.4bn order for 14 Chinooks

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) yesterday confirmed a £1.4bn order for 14 new Chinooks from Boeing. However, budgetary and modernisation pressures mean delivery of the new aircraft will not complete until 2030.

The MOD is purchasing the 14 new extended-range Chinooks via a US Foreign Military Sales agreement, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026. Clearing the way for the new airframes, the UK is set to retire an undisclosed number of its oldest Chinook helicopters.

LONDON The British Army will receive a fleet of 148 Challenger 3 main battle tanks as part of an £800 million ($1.12 billion) contract with Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL), UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced on Friday in a press release.
Based in Telford, the contract will create 200 jobs at Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL), including 130 engineers and 70 technicians, with a further 450 jobs to be established throughout the wider supply chain across the West Midlands, Glasgow, Newcastle upon Tyne and the Isle of Wight.
