Young COVID-19 patients leave hospital unable to care for themselves Share A major UK study has contradicted current narratives that COVID-19 is dangerous only in people with existing comorbidities and the elderly. Published in the high-ranking journal, The Lancet, it showed that of 73,000 patients hospitalised for severe COVID-19 in the UK, half developed one or more complications from the disease. It also highlighted the risk for previously healthy young people, showing that about a third of those under 40 developed one or more complications. About half the complications were acute, which meant the young people could not look after themselves once discharged from hospital.
