Jury trials set in several Knox County Circuit Court cases

By Jarrod Mills Staff Writer Apr 15, 2021 5 hrs ago KNOX COUNTY - On Monday, several jury trials were scheduled for those facing charges in Knox County’s Circuit Court. Jerry Lee Smith, 40, of Flat Lick was just one of those individuals who had a future trial scheduled by Judge Michael Caperton. Smith was indicted in 2018 after police say he traded explicit photos with an 11-year-old girl with a disability via Facebook Messenger. Smith was then indicted by a Knox County grand jury in 2019. He currently faces charges of prohibited use of electronic communications to procure sexual content from a minor, distributing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, indecent exposure and distribution of obscene matter to a minor, and distributing obscene material to a minor.

No students on bus involved in crash Monday afternoon

Mar 8, 2021 Mar 8, 2021 A crash involving a Whitley County school bus and another vehicle in front of Sanders Cafe left one seriously injured Monday afternoon. There were no students on the bus at the time of the crash that occurred at the intersection of US 25W and KY 830. Inside the other vehicle, a Ford SUV, was a man, woman and three juveniles. The woman was airlifted to UK Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries and the three juveniles were taken to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment of possible injuries. The roadway was shutdown temporarily after the crash. Whitley County School District released the following on its Facebook page: We are sad to report that one of our buses was involved in an accident this evening in Corbin . Thankfully, no students were on the bus and the driver is doing well. UPDATE: London woman dies in Thursday morning house fire

Photo by Nita Johnson Photo by Nita Johnson LAUREL COUNTY — A London woman is dead and a male was airlifted to a Lexington hospital for serious injuries following a house fire on KY 192 early Thursday morning. Flora Adams, 36, of London, was found deceased inside the residence located approximately 8 miles west of London. A male, whose name has not been released, was also located in the home and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The fire was reported around 9:14 a.m. in the 8000 block of KY 192. Members of the Bald Rock, Keavy and Laurel County Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames and evacuate the home while the smoke boiled from the residence. The roadway was blocked to all traffic while emergency personnel responded to the situation.
