National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has announced the launch of the new ‘STAR’ facility to aid UK and global Earth Observation missions, providing calibrated and characterised climate quality measurements.
STAR-cc-OGSE, which stands for Spectroscopically Tuneable Absolute Radiometric, calibration and characterisation, Optical Ground Support Equipment, is a vital piece to the climate monitoring puzzle, conceived at NPL, to provide innovative solutions to the pre-flight calibration of satellite instruments. The facility provides a state-of-the-art solution to instrument calibration and characterisation, ensuring the needed performance is achieved while also minimising the time and effort involved in the pre-launch vacuum test environment. In essence the facility combines together in a single transportable package, the contents of NPL’s radiometric calibration capabilities which normally occupy three laboratories at the Teddington site.
Big Boost To Sixth-Gen Tempest Fighter Program As Italy, UK And Sweden Ink Trilateral Agreement
Italy, the United Kingdom, and Sweden signing a trilateral agreement to this effect.
Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini, the British Secretary of State for Defense Ben Wallace, and the Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultkvist signed the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) Cooperation agreement on December 21, 2020.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) came a year after Italy joined the UK-led project for developing the future Tempest fighter jet. While the MoU was signed in December, the Italian government announced this on January 03.
The MoU will cover the cooperation for research, development, and “joint-concepting” of the Tempest fighter which will eventually replace the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets in Italy and the UK, and the Saab Gripen fighter jets in Sweden.

Conspiracy theories about the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine have been circulating in the community since Dr Doreen Brown, 85, became the first person to receive it earlier this month

‘That thing we always say? Ignore it’
It’s that time again, when we look back at the agencies, the brands, the organizations, movements and trends that have shaped the past year. In 2020 – a year so many of us would like to forget – our industry of problem solvers proved time and again that they have what it takes to muck in, help out, ask questions, shape cultures and change the world. It is them that we celebrate in our New Year Honors.
KFC started off 2020 with Veganuary, when it adopted numerous meat-free options. It wasn’t alone in trying to capture the Gregg’s vegan sausage roll glory that earned accolades the previous year. So far, so good.
