Applications for the new work visa routes for eligible overseas workers who wish to work in the United Kingdom from 1 January 2021 opened on 1 December 2020. Provided applicants meet the criteria, workers from overseas, including the European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals, are now able to apply online for (among other new entry routes), the skilled worker visa, the intra-company transfer visa and the global talent visa.
The new points-based system seems to offer a more attractive proposition to employers, and they should find some relief with the system’s new flexibility. For example, the minimum salary levels have been lowered and both the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) and the cap on applications have been scrapped for the skilled worker visa.

Kiwi-born rugby player Chris Budgen may be extradited to New Zealand from the United Kingdom to face trial over a rape allegation from 1991.
UK s Home Office, which oversees immigration, security and law and order, confirmed to the Herald that Budgen appeared at the Westminster Magistrates Court on December 2, where he consented to his extradition to New Zealand. The District Judge therefore sent the case to the Home Secretary to decide whether to order extradition, a spokeswoman from the department told the Herald.
A Jamaican man who reportedly committed several criminal acts and was to be deported from the United Kingdom (UK), has won a four-year legal battle to stay in that country.
The man, only identified as KB , was convicted of nine crimes in six years, the UK Sun newspaper reported.
Details of the cases were not disclosed.
The deportation process was triggered after the father of four was sentenced to 12 months in prison for actual bodily harm, the newspaper further said on Friday.
But the UK Court of Appeal allowed the Jamaican to stay based on human rights grounds .
Additionally, the court argued that the man still had time to be a role model to his four children, and it would be unduly harsh to deny him of that opportunity.
