Fugitive billionaire Vijay Mallya has applied to UK Home Secretary Priti Patel for another route to be able to stay in the UK, the liquor tycoon s barrister representing him in bankruptcy proceedings in the High Court of London confirmed during a remote hearing on Friday.

LONDON: UK Home Secretary Priti Patel on Thursday announced a new GBP 800 fine on anyone attending a house party of 15 people or more as she issued a warning against breaches of the country s stringent stay-at-home coronavirus lockdown.
Addressing a virtual briefing from 10 Downing Street in London, the senior Cabinet minister said the latest infection figures show that the UK is not out of the woods yet and therefore it is absolutely crucial that everyone follows the rules on social distancing.
As she revealed the daily COVID-19 death toll of 1,290, Patel warned the small minority who continue to break rules would face tougher fines and stricter police enforcement.

Warning of a third coronavirus wave from more transmissible coronavirus variants, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said Wednesday his government will try to get parliamentary approval for a nationwide curfew between 8:30pm and 4:30am.
“We need to do the utmost to stay ahead of that third wave, and keep it as small as possible,” Rutte said. “What the cabinet is presenting today will undoubtedly ask a great deal of people again, but it will also yield us a great deal.”

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel warned against a degree of reluctance towards COVID-19 vaccines among ethnic minority communities in the UK, including some within the Indian diaspora, and hailed the work being done by temples, mosques and gurdwaras to counter disinformation. Speaking at a virtual event organised by the Conservative Friends of India (CFIN) diaspora group on Tuesday evening, the senior Cabinet minister said she plans to get very vocal over the issue to spread the message around the safety and efficacy of vaccines currently being administered as part of the National Health Service s (NHS) largest vaccination campaign in history.
