The primary focus of this work is the extraction of geospatial data held by the Geo6 partner bodies: the British Geological Survey, Coal Authority, HM Land Registry, Ordnance Survey, UK Hydrographic Office and Valuation Office Agency. However, the guidance is applicable to all those working with archive data in both the public and private sector.
The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has released a suite of marine geospatial data for use by emergency responders and planners.
It said that over the past month it has added seven datasets to the ResilienceDirect network to complement the existing Simplified Marine Context Service, which it developed to support government applications using marine data.
The additions include information on the UK exclusive economic zone, continental shelf and territorial boundaries, UK port limits, current UK six and 12 nautical mile fishing limits and marine protected areas. There is also information on offshore infrastructure and wreck data.
UKHO said that as the service develops additional layers will be added.

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has launched a range of services providing UK emergency responders and planners with access to an extensive suite of marine geospatial data through the UK government’s centralised ResilienceDirect network.
A range of seven different data sets have been added to ResilienceDirect over the last month. These data sets complement the existing Simplified Marine Context Service, which was developed by the UKHO in response to a need for marine context data within a range of government applications.
UKHO highlights dangers posed by counterfeit ADMIRALTY products
The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is reissuing a warning for the industry to be aware of the dangers of counterfeit versions of ADMIRALTY charts and publications, after observing an increase in the number of counterfeit products in circulation.
These counterfeit items pose a significant danger to crew, vessels and cargo, as they have not been assessed by UKHO experts nor supplied by an authorised ADMIRALTY Chart Agent, who both perform vital quality assurance to ensure the integrity of information in genuine products.
UKHO is also calling on mariners and inspectors to use extra due diligence to ensure products held are genuine, as some sellers of counterfeit products have been found to ‘mix’ genuine charts and information with fake publications and vice versa.
