30 countries join global initiative to tackle marine litter
Plastic litter has devastating effects on our oceans, marine life and human health. It also has measurable impacts on the fishing and shipping industries.
A major international project that will help reduce marine plastic litter from maritime transport and fishing sectors is up for a successful start, after getting 30 countries on board. Five regions will be represented in this global effort: Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific.
The GloLitter Partnerships Project is implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with initial funding from the Government of Norway via the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
ROME, 8 April 2021 (FAO) – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has partnered with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and 30 countries in a major initiative to tackle marine litter and clean up the world’s oceans.

The GloLitter Partnerships Project is being implemented by FAO in partnership with the IMO, with initial funding from the Government of Norway through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
GloLitter will assist developing countries in identifying opportunities to prevent and reduce marine litter, including plastic litter, from the maritime transport and fisheries sectors.

CAPE TOWN - Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on Friday at the age of 99, was a great man and a remarkable public figure who lived an extraordinary, African leaders said.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta described Prince Philip as a great man who worked for a peaceful co-existence of the human race.
âHis Royal Highness Prince Philip has been a towering symbol of family values and the unity of the British people as well as the entire global community,â Kenyatta said.
âCertainly, we mourn a great man who cherished and worked for peaceful co-existence of the human race.â
