This aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 1, 12, 13 and 15, and their wide-ranging commitments on alleviating poverty, ensuring sustainable use of resources, and on conserving life on land.

February 27, 2021 On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID 19 as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). This eventually allowed the World Health Organization to play coordinating and advisory roles in global response mechanisms. A month later, on March 11, a pandemic was declared to over 118.000 cases of coronavirus illness in over 110 countries and territories worldwide, with more than 4300 deaths attributed to the disease.  To date, the global statistics of the infection is 106 million, with the total recovered placed at 59.3million, while the death toll at current is 2.32million. Out of these statistics, Africa has so far recorded 3.5% of global virus cases and 4% of global deaths, according to Africa- Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC, 2020).

Zambia : Govt refutes social media reports on embattled Envoy Mukuma

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed social media reports that a Zambian Diplomat by the name of Musenge Mukuma appointed to the United Republic of Tanzania has been rejected by that country. Dismissing the unfounded reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Public Relations Officer Chansa Kabwela states that her ministry is not in receipt of any letter of appointment for Mr Mukuma as a diplomat designated to the United Republic of Tanzania. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Public Relations Officer Chansa Kabwela clarified in a statement issued to the media that the government has not made any such appointment as reported in social media circles.

Tributes for late economist Benno Ndulu By Zainul Dawood Share Durban - Tributes continued to pour in for Tanzanian economist Professor Benno Ndulu, 71, who died at Hubert Kairuki Memorial Hospital in Dar es Salaam on Monday. He died after a short illness. Ndulu served as a member of South Africa’s presidential economic advisory council from October 2019 up until his death. President Cyril Ramaphosa said that during Ndulu’s multifaceted career, he worked in the World Bank Group and served as a governor of the central bank of the United Republic of Tanzania. Ndulu was also respected as an academic economist at the University of Dar es Salaam.
