Frances Brumback always looked beautiful.
When she and her daughter, Carol, would go out together, they would often be mistaken for sisters.
“But she never would correct anyone,” said Carol Brumback. “She didn’t want anyone to feel bad. That’s just the way she was.”
Frances Brumback, a longtime resident of Monroeville and one of the oldest living World War II veterans, died Nov. 16. She was 99.
Carol, a 70-year-old Gateway graduate, stayed by her mother until the very end. Around five years ago, she commuted from her home in Maryland as often as three times a week to take care of her mother. The two have always been close, she said.

He was born on November 30, 1961 in Upper Darby, PA to the late Raymond Joseph Simpson, III and Mary DiCesar Hackett Simpson.
In 1979, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until his retirement as an Aviation Electrician s Mate Chief Petty Officer in 2004. During his service he earned many citations, commendations, and medals, and was exceptionally proud of his service. Upon retirement, he was employed at Dyncorp, Northrup Grumman, and most recently, a skilled Logistician for the Department of Defense at NAVAIR Patuxent River on the Fire Scout program. Ray s favorite hobbies included his Camaro Starscream - you could always find him detailing it on the weekend, endlessly trying to attain that shine or cruising it somewhere with a view of the water. One of the things that haven t changed is people wanting to buy fresh, conifer trees to help them celebrate Christmas. For that reason, Miller opted to get into the tree business by running a seasonal lot.
