New Taipei, Feb. 6 (CNA) More than 400 people, many of Myanmar descent, took to the streets of New Taipei on Saturday in support of the country s elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was recently detained in a military coup.
The demonstrators, wearing red shirts, held placards and Myanmar flags and called for the release of Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained by the military Monday, along with the country s President Win Myint and several senior government officials. Release Aung San Suu Kyi! shouted the approximately 400 protesters as they marched along Huaxin Street in New Taipei s Zhonghe District, where many immigrants of Myanmar descent live.
