The Black Hawk, the workhorse in wartime and in natural disasters, is facing a challenge familiar to those in middle age as a new and faster helicopter swoops in to take its place.
Its manufacturer, Sikorsky Aircraft, a unit of Lockheed Martin Corp., is working with Boeing to develop a utility helicopter that flies at double the speed and twice as far as the Black Hawk. In a competition for a Pentagon contract, they are facing off against Bell, the manufacturer of utility helicopters during the Vietnam War, to design and build the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft.

The recent merger of United Technologies Corp. and Raytheon Co. presented some unique challenges for UTC CIO Robin Diamonte and her investment staff in bringing together more than $100 billion in retirement plan assets under the umbrella of a single organization.
Ms. Diamonte did have the advantage of prior experience in integrating other companies defined benefit and defined contribution plans into UTC s portfolio.
Its 2012 acquisition of aircraft-components maker Goodrich Corp. and 2018 acquisition of aerospace company Rockwell Collins added about $5 billion and $8 billion in retirement assets in those deals, respectively.
