A one-day community peace dialogue for women and youth in Maridi county over the weekend ended with a call for equal participation of women in peacebuilding and leadership in South Sudan.
The peace dialogue, organized by the National Women Empowerment and Rehabilitation Organization (NWERO) with support from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, under the theme ‘Youth and women, united against barriers to women participation in peacebuilding processes in South Sudan’ was attended by over 30 women and girls.
Speaking during the dialogue, NWERO program coordinator, Mokili Elias Justin, said the peace dialogue aimed at promoting peace by addressing socio-cultural factors that affect women s participation in local and national peace processes and strengthen women emancipation and development in the county.

MANILA – The Philippine government is allocating some USD50,000 (approximately PHP2.4 million) to support the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund for 2021.
“The peacebuilding architecture evolved from an afterthought in the peace process to a principle governing all UN engagements in preventive actions, peacemaking, peacekeeping and post-conflict recovery and reconstruction. It is the UN’s most important role in fulfilling its purpose to spare humanity the scourge of war,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Wednesday.
Today, the Secretary-General, António Guterres, co-chaired a High-Level Replenishment Conference for the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund together with.
The Peacebuilding Fund is the U.N.’s financial instrument of first resort to sustain peace in countries or situations at risk or affected by violent conflict.
