New alliance seeks to tackle the plague of falsified medical products
COVID-19 has spawned a stark rise in the global circulation of fake medical products relating to the pandemic, experts warn as they launch an alliance aimed at tackling the scourge.
The Fight the Fakes (FTF) Alliance, a non-profit association comprising 16 organizations from manufacturers to wholesalers, and research and patient groups, aims to raise the profile of an issue it views as long under-addressed globally, with a disproportionate impact on low- and middle-income countries.
One in 10 medical products in developing countries is either substandard or falsified, according to World Health Organization (WHO) figures from 2017. And some research suggests the prevalence of fake medicines can be as high as 70 per cent in some African countries.

The Journal recently reported that a supervisor at New Mexico’s largest jail, the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), stole thousands of dollars from inmate accounts. For those who work in criminal defense, this story comes as no surprise. Almost anyone who has worked with incarcerated clients has heard stories of “missing” money or “lost” property when people go through the jail system. These stories are not confined to MDC – they have been occurring throughout the state in jails and prisons for decades.

Full credit to the author for bringing forth their opinion on the issue and how they feel. It is and will forever remain their right to do so. But I retain my equally opinionated rights to pick it apart as an emotive farce pretending to be logic. So here we go.
I felt as I recently read in the

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Malaysian authorities have seized more than two tons of crystal methamphetamine worth more than $26 million aboard a small boat off the country’s western coast, the largest ever such haul in the country’s history.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said over the weekend that it made the seizure on Dec. 9 off the coast of Penang. The agency said in a statement that a maritime patrol found the drugs on a recreational boat that was behaving strangely.
Methamphetamine is illicitly smuggled across much of Southeast Asia, China and Australia, part of a multi-billion dollar illegal trade in the drug.
