Diplomats from some 50 countries join webinar on latest development in Xinjiang - China News

The online event, jointly held by China s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva and the government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, also attracted the participation of officials from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and UN human rights experts. During Wednesday s webinar, people from different walks of life in Xinjiang told their own stories, and a series of video clips reflecting Xinjiang s natural scenery, development achievements and people s happy life were played for the audience.

Brief description of the situation: The Observatory has been informed by Karapatan - the Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights - of the judicial harassment of Karapatan National Council member Daisy ‘Jackie’ Valencia. On September 25, 2020, the Regional Trial Court Branch 30 in Tagum, Davao del Norte Province, issued an arrest warrant for Daisy ‘Jackie’ Valencia. However, she was only recently made aware through a reliable sourceof the murder charges pressed against her. At the time of publication of this Urgent Appeal, Ms. Valencia had not received any formal notice from the Court.

Introduction The present report, submitted pursuant to Security Council resolutions 2542 (2020) and 2510 (2020), covers political, security and economic developments in Libya, provides an overview of the human rights and humanitarian situation and includes an outline of the activities of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) since the issuance of my previous report on 25 August 2020 (S/2020/832) and interim report on 30 December 2020 (S/2020/1309) on proposed ceasefire monitoring arrangements in Libya. II. Political, security and economic developments Since my previous report (S/2020/832), a de facto truce in central Libya has continued to hold. Meanwhile, consultations with the Libyan parties to advance a ceasefire agreement, resume political talks and advance economic reforms have continued, under the auspices of the United Nations.
