We are in an existential crisis that threatens all of us | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 26, 2021 The Saratoga Friends meeting recently wrote to our Congressional representatives. We encouraged them to advance ing legislation. As members of the Religious Society of Friends, we are motivated by our Quaker faith to endorse the position of our Friends Committee on National Legislation: Carbon prices remain a necessary condition of ambitious climate policies. Many economists agree that pricing carbon is the most cost-effective lever to reduce carbon emissions at the scale and speed necessary. Emission targets need to be in line with the scientific community’s recommendations to avoid catastrophic impacts of climate change. If reduction targets are not met, the price should increase. The legislation must ensure that the costs of a carbon price are not borne by marginalized and low-income communities. Polluters must not move operations to other countries to avoid paying for their emissions. Legislation should include transparent reporting to monitor emission levels.

Letters to the Editor Saturday, Jan. 16 | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Trump brought all this upon himself I am amused (dumbfounded?) by the Letters to the Editor saying Trump has been a victim of baseless media attacks. The latest said he has suffered “death by a thousand cuts.” If there were a train wreck each day and the media reported it, would that mean the media had something against railroads? Ex-employees and family confirm that he is a dangerous, narcissistic sociopath. Trump has almost daily done irreparable damage to various departments of our government, institutions of our country and traditions of our nation, ushering in the death of truth and culminating in conspiracy theorists storming our Capitol.

News - Climate Change Is Not to Blame for Rising Natural Disaster Costs

Climate Change Weekly #385 In less than a month, three separate reports have been released repeating the same half-truth: the costs of natural disasters are rising, setting records in recent years, and human-caused climate change is to blame. I say half-truth because it is also a half-lie. Each of the studies received copious amounts of prominent coverage by the mainstream media. I suspect the timing of the releases and the coordinated coverage were not by coincidence. They were intended to gin up a steady drumbeat of support for radical climate action by the incoming Biden administration, with these studies intended to provide the new president’s climate team with justification and cover for a “great reset” type of takeover of the economy to save the world from apocalyptic climate change.
