This was made known via webinar for journalists on Nigeria National Food Systems Dialogue, FSSD, and the dialogue will hold in the six geopolitical zones of the country as part of the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), and there will be series of dialogues across the country to chart pathways towards ensuring resilient, inclusive and sustainable food systems in Nigeria by 2030.

Many actors are involved, from subsistence farmers through to multinational corporations with more economic power than many small nations, and from informal ambulant vendors through supranational bureaucracies. All of them interact with each other directly and indirectly, amplifying (sometimes, dampening) each other’s actions. Policymakers seek to cut through this complexity, identifying and prioritising actions that lead to more favourable outcomes for the stakeholder groups that they care about. Two recent, and very different, publications move us forward on this path, both focusing on food systems actions that could improve nutritional outcomes.

TODAY February 3, 2021 In preparation for a United Nations Food Systems Summit to be convened by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in September 2021, the Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with the United Nations systems in Nigeria has announced plans to organize series of dialogues across the country towards ensuring resilient, inclusive and sustainable food systems in Nigeria by 2030. As announced on Monday by the National Convenor of Nigeria Food Systems Summit Dialogue (FSSD), and Permanent Secretary, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Olusola Idowu, the first food systems dialogues will hold on 23 February. She added that it will be based on five action tracks that will ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all; Shift to sustainable Consumption Patterns; Boost nature-positive production; Advance equitable livelihood; and build resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks, and stress.
