Namibia rejects Israel s AU observer status - International

STAFF REPORTER The Namibian government has rejected the African Union Commission’s decision to grant Israel observer status in the African Union (AU). After nearly 20 years of diplomatic efforts, Israel attained observer status at the AU when Israeli ambassador to Ethiopia Aleli Admasu last week presented his credentials to Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairman of the African Union Commission. Namibia’s position was made public by international relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah yesterday during a telephonic interview with Namibian Sun, in which she also said that member states were not consulted. Namibia has over the years consistently criticised Israel’s conduct towards Palestine, accusing it of “illegally” occupying the latter in defiance to international protocols.

Registering the unregistered: How Malaysia plans to vaccinate ínvisible communities

20 Jul 2021 / 09:18 H. Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: Laden with an icebox, needles, personal protective equipment and other items, the team of volunteers and medical officers stepped out of their van on a narrow kampung road in Beranang, Selangor, one hot Tuesday morning recently. “At least the rain stopped,” mused one volunteer as the six-person group made their way uphill on a dirt road. It was uncomfortably humid and the equipment they carried was heavy but that trip on July 6 was necessary to protect bedridden and disabled people – those who are unable to go to vaccination sites (PPV) – from the coronavirus that has torn through Malaysia since March last year.
